Ida popped up early this morning as a hurricane with 75 mph winds only to have petered out to barely a Tropical Storm just twelve hours later. This is good news for the US as we have been very lucky, although very dry, this hurricane season.

Hurricane forms off the East coast of Nicaragua
Hurricane Ida has formed off the East Coast of Nicaragua. This storm, a category I, has sustained winds of 75 mph.
A hurricane watch is in effect for the Eastern coast of Nicaragua from North of Puerto Cabezas to the Honduras/Nicaragua border.
