TS Danny is 4th named storm of the season.

At 1100 am EDT... 1500 UTC... the center of Tropical Storm Danny was located near latitude 24.9 north ... longitude 70.3 west or about 445 miles... 715 km... east of Nassau and about 775 miles... 1250 km... south-southeast of Cape Hatteras North Carolina.

Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 18 mph...30 km/hr. A general northwestward motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected today and Thursday...with a turn toward the north-northwest expected on Friday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph ...75 km/hr... with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is possible during the next couple of days.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles ...220 km mainly to the north of the center.

The minimum central pressure estimated from NOAA hurricane hunter aircraft data is 1009 mb...29.80 inches.

Danny is expected to cause storm total rainfall of 2 to 3 inches... with maximum amounts of 4 inches...over the central and northwestern Bahamas. Storm total rainfall of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

And then of course, we could say There was a crooked storm ... when talking about TS Fay. It looks like TS Hanna is going to be somewhat like that.

The NHC has New Orleans in their newly updated cone for Hurricane/TS Gustav, currently over land in Haiti with 70mph sustained winds.

Yep.. it is Hurricane Season

As we enter the historically observed height of the Hurricane Season, we are now watching Tropical Depression (TD) #7.

TS Fay Update

Well... it looks like TS Fay has landed on the West Coast, away from any heavy population. We here in Hollywood are still getting squals with heavy rain and light wind and will continue to until TS Fay moves Northward. I've removed the shutter on Squeaky's door and except for one time early last night, he has not had any desire to go out. Since there was no wind nor heavy rain, I openned the back door and he went out for about five minutes.

Hunkered Down

I got the last minute things done this morning. Took the stool and wheelbarrow off of the patio and into the shed. After the garbage was picked up, I put the garbage bins and recycle bin into the "cage" in front of my front door and closed all of the accordion shutters. I also shuttered Squeaky's door.

I then made a quick run to Publix and got cat food and bread. I'm all ready.

I am a bit disturbed by the fact that today was the beginning of our monthly commingled garbage pick-up that continues through the week. People have mattresses, old chairs, furniture and appliance sitting on their swales or alleys. If the winds increase, these items will be very dangerous. I'm glad I closed the shutters for this very reason.

As I listen to TWC on TV (on constantly today), I have added two more tools for seeing what is going on in the tropics. To the right, I have a Hurrican Center radar map that will update as things change.

On the bottom of this page, I have added Doppler Radar in full color. On my computer, it seems this is very tempermental, but if you hover over the little map, it will expand. Please comment if these features are not working.
