AP - AUG 11, 2009, BARNSTABLE, Mass. - Former President John F. Kennedy's sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver died early Tuesday, her family said.
The 88-year-old Shriver had been hospitalized in Massachusetts since last week. Members of her extended family had gathered at her bedside at Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable.
Shriver organized the first Special Olympics in 1968. She was inspired in part by the struggles of her mentally disabled sister, Rosemary Kennedy.
July 24, 2009—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the FY 2010 Labor-HHS-Education funding bill, setting the initial appropriation level for both the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and Arts in Education programs (AIE) at the U.S. Department of Education for fiscal year 2010.
